Band Score Results:

1. Fluency: At times the student’s speech was natural and at times hesitation occurred with mispronunciation.

2. Coherence: This is a high score for the speaker as she expressed her thoughts clearly and in a logical manner. She connected her ideas together very well.

3. Lexical Resource: In this area the student scored very high as she used a wide range of high-level vocabulary appropriately and expressed her ideas excellently. She was able to include a few explanations as well as a few idioms.

4. Grammatical Range: The student scored well in this area due to her use of a variety of sentence structures and ability to use complex sentences. Some errors occurred such as missing word ending such as s, ed, t and ing. However, sometimes this was self corrected.

5. Pronunciation: This is an area in which the student needs to improve and would be one of her lowest scoring areas. Clarity and her use of connected speech at times was good but at times did not sound natural. At times due to needing improvements in the sounds of l, s, ed, t and ing the speaker made errors but was mostly understandable. The students stress, rhythm and intonation was good at times but not consistent throughout the speaking responses. This is an area in which the student needs to improve in order to achieve an 8 or 9 Band Score.

1. High‑band speakers talk naturally, with few pauses, and develop ideas fully.

Lower‑band speakers pause often, struggle to continue speaking, or lose

coherence.

2. High‑band speakers use a wide range of structures with mostly error‑free sentences.

Lower‑band speakers rely on simple sentences and make frequent mistakes.

3. High‑band speakers are easy to understand throughout and use natural pronunciation features.

Lower‑band speakers may be difficult to understand or have unclear pronunciation.
